Recognising the strengths of the family in business
This week’s ‘Focus On’ awards category is that of Family Businesses.
Occasionally we hear businesses say that they don’t intend to consider Family Awards as they believe that they are only for very small companies and perhaps don’t reflect their own particular breadth of activities or scale of achievements.
Now, there may have been a point in the past where Family Business Awards represented the kind of enterprises which were more miniscule in nature or whose achievements were limited to their immediate community. Not so nowadays! Family Business Awards are often highly contested and attract companies of every size, from husband and wife commercial partnerships to the third or fourth generation multi-national industrial manufacturers.
The businesses which enter these awards have one very important thing in common and that is the fact that they succeed in their chosen field whilst leveraging (and often strengthening) the family bonds within their organisation.
Regardless of whether the familial links are considered to be a huge advantage or an occasional hinderance, the contribution made by Family Businesses across the UK is massive and at The Awards People we are huge advocates of the awards events which celebrate their success.
Speaking of success… We are delighted to announce that Palmers Garden Centre (https://www.palmersgardencentre.co.uk/), an independently owned family business who’s history stretches back over 100 years (and a valued Awards People client) have been shortlisted as finalists in the national Family Business of the Year 2020 Awards in the ‘Home and Garden’ category.
These extremely prestigious and much coveted awards were created to celebrate the UK family business sector, to recognise the diversity of family firms across the country and to recognise the contribution they make. You can find out all about the event itself, the winners from each UK region and the glamorous Finals Gala Reception which will take place on June 4th at the Mayfair Hotel London by clicking on this link https://www.familybusinessunited.com/news/the-family-business-of-the-year-awards-2020/.
We will obviously all be very excited here at TAP HQ and will have everything crossed for Hazel and the team in what was actually their very first award ever entered!! Watch out for Hazel’s blog later this month as she has promised to come in to chat to us in the Badass Bistro…
